Jason Snyder
We are pleased to announce our new Golf Course Superintendent, Mr. Jason Snyder! Jason comes to us from Estancia Golf Club, in Scottsdale, where he was First Assistant. Prior to Estancia, he was the Superintendent at Baltimore Country Club, in Maryland, and an Assistant Superintendent, at Winged Foot Golf Club, in New York. He started his new position with us, Monday, March 12th. Let’s all extend our FireRock welcome to Jason.
Agronomy Update Our Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Ryan Voyles, stepped up to manage the day-to-day maintenance. Working at FireRock the past four years, Ryan easily kept pace with the necessary programs and golf course grooming. As our busy tournament season is well underway, we have taken measures to refine the playability of the course. The height on the fairways, tees and complex were lowered. We are using groomers on our green’s mowers, which helps the grass stand upright for a better cut creating a firmer, faster playing surface. As a result of thatch, standing water is an on-going challenge on the golf course. We have started aerifying the fairways with our new Wiedenmann Aerifier to improve the situation. Aerification is essential in the relief of soil compaction, and also provides a method to accelerate water drainage and displacement of salt from our effluent water source. This summer all areas will be verti-cut to further remedy and manage better water absorption. In an effort to enhance our bunkers, heavy maintenance is in full-swing to make sure all corrections are made. We want to thank our members for using the green and white stakes that define the point of entry into the fairway. This is so helpful in avoiding the extra turf wear.
